How to register water service in your home?

Each municipal water supply company is responsible for providing water service to users in the locality in an operational manner related to the geographical location of the home.

Once the documentation requested by the municipal water service for registration has been submitted, in approximately 3 or 4 days, an installation technician will appear at the home and proceed to install a water meter with which consumption measurements will be carried out on a quarterly basis.

The documentation required by the company that grants registration for the water supply is:

ID of the person who will be responsible for the payment and consumption of water

Document that proves ownership of the home or rental of the same, whether it be a public deed of ownership, rental agreement, or paid IBI receipt from the previous year.

The bank details of the holder

If it is the first installation, a report from the installer who installed the meter will also be necessary.

For cases in which it is a rented home that was already registered, it will only be necessary to make a change in the owner of the supply.

On the other hand, companies or industries that are going to request registration for the supply must, in addition to all the previous documentation, also present a power of attorney and the heading of the IAE (Tax on Economic Activities) on the economic activities to which they are dedicated.

Industrial companies or industries will, in turn, need an authorization for the discharge of industrial waste.

How much will it cost me to register water service in my home or business?

Your water bill will consist of two types of fees:

A fixed fee that is paid only for the availability of the water supply service in the home or business.

A variable fee that will depend, as is logical, on the consumption made over time added to a contracting fee that is naturally included when activating the service.

In any case, the price paid for water is not the same in Madrid as in Murcia as in Alicante, nor is its quality. Each city is different in this sense and the variation will depend not only on consumption, but also on the particular characteristics of the property or home, the size of the apartment, and the number of bathrooms, terraces, or gardens that have a water supply.

Registering the water supply will cost you between €50 and €200. Depending on the circumstances, it may be below €30 or reach €300.
